Hello,

I have a very short question: How can I use Keyman keyboards in (G)ViM (for Windows)?

I am wondering whether this issue is related to ViM rather than to Keyman, but ViM somehow supresses keyboard input other than its own (and probably many other applications do it that way). Is there a system-level way to tell Windows to ask Keyman first what character to proceed to the application in use?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi Nikola,

The problem is that ViM, like many Opensource applications, does not use standard Windows input methods. There's no way to force Windows to fix the issue, but it should be possible to modify ViM to work correctly with Windows.

If you want to pursue the matter, we can provide a quote for creating a patch for the ViM source code to fix the problem.

Kind regards,

Paul Durdin

That's more than generous offer, thank you very much. (I actually thought that solution was much simpler.)

I'd like to try ViM patch because Keyman-ViM would be the most powerful and perfect editing environment.

Hi Nikola,

At some point in the next few days we'll look into it further and prepare a quote -- we're a little short of time at the moment as we release Keyman 7.0 on the 31st!

I'll get back to you as soon as we've examined it a bit more closely.

Kind regards,
