I've downloaded the fonts to be able to write in phonetic script.
I've also installed Keyman.
I'm told I have to install a keyboard. I don't know which. The list does not include a phonetics keyboard and I have the standard 'English' one already obviously..
So how can I get to write in the phonetic scripts which I have installed?
OK I have 3 Sil fonts installed in Word (though strangely, I can see far more in my Font file) and I have installed a keyboard called IPA93.1.2 (FF) which I think is the one that should allow me to write in phonetics. However, if I select this keyboard and a Sil font I just get normal type. How can I switch over to phonetics and how do I then know which keyboard to hit for a specific phonetic symbol? I think there is something I have not understood.

The Keyman icon is a K on a key, and is displayed in the bottom right of the screen. You can confirm that Keyman is installed correctly by navigating to the Start Menu, and looking for the Tavultesoft Keyman folder in the Start Menu. Select Keyman Configuration from the Tavultesoft Keyman folder to see the list of installed keyboard layouts for Keyman. |

I don't have any problem seeing the Keyman icon. I also have a keyboard installed (IPA 93.1.2 FF) and I think this is the keyboard I need to write in phonetic script. I also have the font SILDoulus IPA 93 installed and I think this is the font I need to write in phonetic script. My problem is that if I select the keyboard and then (in WORD) the font, when I type, I simply get 'normal' letters. I don't know what to do to be able to write in phonetic script. |

The basic letters in the IPA font are modified by typing a special key after the initial character, the primary modifiers being "<", ">" and "=". Full details are in the document I mentioned above. glennie | If I type, for example, n< using Sil DoulosIPA93 font I don't get the script that is indicated by the table. Do I have to type any other keys? I can't see what I am doing wrong. |

Try changing the font to Arial. Then type "n<". Do you just get "n<" on screen or does another character appear? That will tell us whether the Keyman keyboard is active or not. Apart from that, not sure what is going on, things to check: - have you selected the SIL IPA93 keyboard from the Keyman K icon in the bottom right of the screen? (or have you got the SIL Unicode IPA keyboard with the SIL IPA93 font?) Marc Durdin Tavultesoft Pty Ltd |
