Simple question probably -- suppose I am typing Latin and I want the macron, plus the acute accent. What's the simplest way to get them both in a single keyboard layout? For macron, I am using the Maori keyboard, but it has no accute accent; and if I use, say, the US International keyboard, it has accute accent but no macron! Why does everyone hate the macron so much?

Macron is used widely in the Pacific but not so much in other areas, so it tends not to be available in European-focused keyboards. A couple of ways to solve this:

1. Use an existing pan-Latin keyboard that does support macron and acute. I believe both European Latin (http://eurolatin.keymankeyboards.com/) and BU Keyboard (http://keymankeyboards.com/391) support macron and acute.

2. Create your own keyboard in Keyman Developer: http://www.tavultesoft.com/keymandev/

I created a layout for internal use here (State Library of Victoria) for Australian indigenous languages and Pasifika languages. Allows typing of macron with vowel and acute with vowel.

It could be modified if you need those diacritics with other languages.

haven't got around to packaging it yet, just using the kmx file.

Let me know if this would help.

Thanks for your kind answers -- really I only need the simplest thing; a regular US English keyboard that can easily type macrons plus the occasional acute. If that's not inconvenient for you to whip up, Andrew, I would certainly be interested.
