Dear Sirs:
Well, I have finally bitten the bullet and purchased Keyman Desktop
Professional.
I believe I successfully activated the license number or product key. The
process seemed to execute successfully. Then, with great joy I downloaded
the keyboards I wanted.
But I have encountered a problem.
When I left-click on the Keyman icon in my task-bar, a menu pops up showing
all the keyboards that I downloaded and (I thought) installed:
1. Greek Phonetic (Galaxie)
2. Hebrew Phonetic (Galaxie)
3. PhonyRus
4. Pokhto Keyboard
5. Rus 1521 (I really don't care about this one, but it comes with PhonyRus)
However, when I am actually typing, say in a Microsoft Word document (2010
version-- and I am running Windows 7), then only the first 2 of these 5
keyboards is actually available. Alt-Shift toggles between English, Greek
and Hebrew only.
How do I get access to (activate/install/switch on) my PhonyRus and
Pokhto keyboards?
Thank you for your time.
Yours,
Keith McCune *

Marc Durdin Tavultesoft Staff | Hi Keith,
The language switch hotkey Alt+Left Shift is a Windows hotkey for switching languages. Keyman can install additional keyboards that are not linked to a language. So while Greek and Hebrew languages are installed and linked to the relevant Keyman keyboards, it sounds like the PhonyRus and Pokhto keyboards are not associated with a Windows language. This is the recommended solution: 1. Add the Windows languages Russian and Pashto through Control Panel, type "Change keyboards", select "Change keyboards or other input methods", click [Change keyboards...], click [Add...]. 2. When you add the language, you will need to add it with a "US" Windows base keyboard, rather than the default Russian and Pashto keyboards, by selecting "Show More..." in the list of Keyboards under the language. This will ensure you have the correct mappings for your phonetic Keyman keyboards. 3. After adding these languages, and clicking [OK], start Keyman Desktop Configuration, click on the Languages tab, and select the PhonyRus keyboard for Russian, and Pokhto keyboard for Pashto. An alternative is to use the Keyman menu to select the keyboard directly, but this will result in your Pashto text displaying incorrectly as it will not be tagged with the right language and hence will not flow right-to-left correctly. |
