Topic Keyman 8.0 with Windows 10

I have been using Keyman for a number of years, have Keyman Desktop 8.0, and just recently switched to Windows 10. I now receive an error message: MSSWCH.dll missing, reinstall program. Can anyone help me?

As far as I can discover, MSSWCH.dll is a system file from earlier versions of Windows that is not used in Windows 10. I do not know any reason that Keyman would be needing it.

Did you do an upgrade to Windows 10 or a fresh install?

Is this a fresh install of Keyman? Does the error appear when you try and start Keyman or some other time?

I purchased Keyman Desktop (I believe it was 7.0 about seven or eight years ago) on another computer and no longer have the original files so I cannot be more specific. I had been hassled by Windows to upgrade (free) from Windows 7 to Windows 10 so I finally gave in. Also, I use Keyman Desktop to type Greek text. I am a professor and depend on the reliability and ease of use of the Keyman keyboard.

The first time I attempted to double click on my Keyman icon the system did nothing. Upon further attempts I received the error message and now do not know how to proceed.

I'm not sure what is going wrong but I think it's worth trying a repair of the Keyman install before we dig deeper:

1. Click in the Search Windows box, type "Programs and Features" and select "Programs and Features".
2. In the list of programs, select "Tavultesoft Keyman Desktop 8.0" and click the Repair button.

That should run for a few seconds and then you can try starting Keyman again.

If that doesn't resolve the problem, can you send us a diagnostic report following the steps at http://help.keyman.com/kb/40 and we'll take it from there.

I did not find either 'Programs and Features' nor 'Repair' buttons/selections. I did run across an error message a couple of times (different iterations) indicating that the program is not installed. However, as mentioned earlier, it worked just fine with Windows 7 for years and that I purchased it back in 2007-2008 timeframe (on a different computer). Do I need to do a fresh download from your website? Do you have the account information? It is important for me to get this up and running soon. I am contributing a chapter to a book within the next month and I need to be able to type with the Greek font I have installed, so I need the Keyman keyboard.

I think at this stage, the best thing to do is to submit the diagnostic report to us so we can understand what is going wrong on your computer.

I need to install Keyman on a Windows 10 machine. Will Keyman 8 work? Or is it critical to update to Keyman 9?

Yes, Keyman 8 does work with Windows 10; Keyman 9 provides tighter integration with the language support. But Keyman 8 functions well with most apps in Windows 10. (Note: Microsoft Edge is not supported).
